The ICT-KM Program's 2004 Investment Plan was designed to address major needs within the 15 CGIAR Centers. Various activities under this plan have given staff access to System-wide resources and a unique set of collaboration tools; provided seamless communication across the Centers; promoted greater knowledge sharing in support of increased effectiveness; enhanced the communication capabilities of scientists through advanced research networks; and provided remote offices with the basic Internet connections that many of us take for granted.
The 2006 Investment Plan, which covers Phase II of the Program, focuses on providing follow-on support for several critical, System-wide activities that were started under the 2004 Investment Plan. Only by consolidating the gains of these activities can all CGIAR staff and partners benefit from their potential returns. Efforts have also been initiated to ensure that the necessary human resources are in place to enable the Program to effectively fulfill its objectives and plan for future investments.
The main scope of the 2006 Investment Plan is centered on two relatively large projects:
The CGIAR-wide intranet/extranet system will be maintained and its content, tools and services further developed. The CGVlibrary, which is accessible through CGXchange, will increase access to additional agricultural information resources, and the Learning Object Repository, another resource available through the site, will be further enhanced under the Digital Content for Learning Project. CG-MAP, a System-wide application that will help CGIAR Centers and Challenge Programs compile information for their annual MTP submissions, will also be brought into the CGXchange fold.

Phase II of this project has two main activities. Scaling Up will extend the lessons learned from previous KS pilots and other activities to other Centers and Programs, mainstream KS in the CGIAR and develop the CGIAR community of KS practitioners. Scaling Out will identify and pursue pportunities to enhance collaborative learning and innovation in major CGIAR partnerships through the use of KS approaches.

In addition to the 2 projects listed above the Program oversees the coordination and management of the Investment Plan 2006 as well as develops the future activity for the Program.
