INVESTMENT PLAN UPDATES
Consortium
for Spatial Information
In
response to the
Indian Ocean
tsunami, many of the CGIAR Centers working in the
affected regions are now actively involved in providing
assistance.
The CSI
Project has added a page to the CGIAR-CSI website with
links to the IWMI geospatial data, and other Tsunami
relevant geospatial information sources.
For more information, or specific data requests,
please contact csi@cgiar.org
or go directly to CGIAR-CSI Tsunami Info Page http://csi.cgiar.org/tsunami.asp.
Following
the request originating from the CGIAR Director
Generals' meeting held in
Jakarta
in January requesting CGIAR-CSI to coordinate the
development of a Tsunami impact assessment process, the
CSI global coordinator, Dr Robert Zomer and his team are
currently soliciting input to start the process of
formulating a joint approach to this.
Utilization
of Intelligent Information Systems for Plant Protection
The
implementation of this project began in January. The
project leader and his team are currently preparing for
its kick-off meeting which will be held on 9 and 10
February at ICARDA.
Knowledge
Management and Sharing
In collaboration with the ILAC Initiative, this
project will organize a workshop on “Group
Facilitation Skills and Participatory Decision Making”
from 15 to 17 February at IPGRI headquarters,
Rome. This workshop will be led by Dr Sam Kaner, noted
trainer on group facilitation and senior author of
“The Facilitator's Guide to Participatory
Decision-Making”. The project is also currently
developing a Knowledge Sharing Tool Kit and will review
HR policies and procedures related to KS and ILAC in
CGIAR Centers.

ICT-KM
2
Starting
28 February 2005 the ICT-KM Program will begin an
exciting process that builds on earlier investments
made, and further improves the way in which the Global
Public Goods held by the CGIAR are managed, accessed and
shared for the benefit of all. A two-week online
consultation for ICT-KM2 will start on 28 February 2005.
Participants will include individuals from:
Science Council; Challenge Program; System Office; CSI;
SINGER; IT Managers; ICT-KM Advisory Group; researchers;
scientists; external experts; and others.
We are
inviting you to participate in this online consultation,
28 February to 11 March 2005. You
will have a unique opportunity to contribute to a new
way of doing business. You can learn from on-line
presentations, demos, and interviews with diverse
constituents. You can participate by logging on to our
consultation website or by giving us your feedback by
email.
Your
participation will contribute directly to the
elaboration of a project or projects designed to address
the challenges and opportunities identified during the
dialogue.
A few
hours of your time can make a difference for the whole
CGIAR! More importantly, it helps take steps so that the
work of CGIAR and National Partner scientists can be
accelerated and applied in the hands of farmers across
the world.
Interested
and ready to actively participate? Just send us an email
to ictkm@cgiar.org
with your name, organization and title, and we will add
your name to our participation list. Further information

TECHNOLOGY
WATCH
This
column is dedicated to keeping a regular watch for
emerging ICTs of potential interest to the CGIAR.
Symantec,
a company in information security providing a broad
range of software, appliances and services, has prepared
a press release which will hit the wires soon to
announce their new spam control system. The CGIAR which
uses the system through CGNET was considered an
excellent show case. This article provides the CGIAR as
a whole a good level of visibility and shows our
commitment to research and excellence.
