Collaborate, Create, Communicate...

What better way to begin the month than with a workshop participated by enthusiastic colleagues, all eager to learn more about CGXchange, the CGIAR’s intrant/extranet system.

After getting off to such a good start, the mood continued with the Program securing a subscription that benefits all CGIAR members of staff; then there is the progress being made by the CGVlibrary ...

Program Consultant David Balson, a well-known figure in the CGIAR, is featured in our “Behind the Scenes” section this month. Read about his first encounter with the CGIAR and what he does to ‘relax’ when he is not working with the Program.

In next month’s issue of ICT-KM News, we will feature an interview that highlights the collaborative work between the CGIAR and another well-known organization. So don’t forget to check our website next month to read this report, and to learn more about the Program and its activities.

Share & Learn

“One of the best workshops I’ve ever participated in. Especially because of the flexibility when it came to changing the schedule based on the feedback received from one session to the next. Very often you attend workshops that have fixed schedules, even if it’s seen that a certain aspect of that schedule no longer makes sense. With this workshop, even after the first day, we changed the schedule to suit the express needs of the participants.”  -- Roland Rupieper, Senior Plumtree Consultant

CGVlibrary Making Big Strides

Even though the project is not finished, the CGVlibrary has been making big strides in its efforts to incorporate the library catalogs of all the CGIAR Centers into its database. Presently, 12 Centers have contributed to the CGIAR’s first System-wide virtual library and can be accessed in a federated search, saving scientists and researchers valuable time.

New Institutional Membership: CGIAR and IAALD

The ICT-KM Program has successfully secured a two-year institutional membership with the International Association of Agricultural Information Specialists. Covering the CGIAR Secretariat and all 15 Centers, this membership is valid until the end of 2007.

Behind the Scenes - David Balson, Program Consultant

David Balson, a man with boundless energy and an obvious passion for his work, has a confession to make. Despite a successful career, and a loving, supportive family in his native Canada , there is still one thing that eludes him.

Knowledge Sharing in African Agricultural Research
