Luz Marina Alvaré

Luz Marina Alvaré, a citizen of Colombia, is Head of IFPRI's Library and Knowledge Management Unit. Her work focuses on ways to preserve, organize and disseminate research information for IFPRI staff as well as policymakers and key stakeholders.

Luz Marina joined IFPRI in 2000 after working for more than 8 years at the Centro Internacional de Agricultura Tropical (CIAT) in Cali, Colombia.

Throughout her 15 years of work with the CGIAR, Luz Marina has managed several innovative institutional websites and e-products, including, BibliogrAfrica CD-ROM, and ECOGENLit.

She also has directed a number of collaborative projects on behalf of the CGIAR including the CGIAR Global Knowledge Sharing Pilot Project, InfoFinder (FAO), "Ending Hunger in Africa through Agricultural Information" (USAID) and the CGIAR Virtual Library (ICT-KM).

In December 2006, Luz Marina and her team of information managers and technicians received the CGIAR Science Award for "Outstanding Scientific Support Team" in recognition of their work in creating the CGIAR Virtual Library.
